Tricia Spooner & Robert Parniak did 20:40 this year - an improvement of 16 seconds from their 2006 WTT Invitational ride of 20:56. |

Mathematically speaking, the winner of this award was the woman who rode at least five WTT events in 2007 and had the minimum value for the standard deviation of the performance ratio (cube-speed ratio) of her speeds relative to her best speed in the 2007 WTT series. The ordered ranking of this years participants relative to this score can be seen by looking at this table or this graph. Note that our above simple definition of "consistent" is looking for consistency REGARDLESS of the weather conditions or time of year. Clearly we want to ensure that the rider getting this award didn't rank highly because of riding only on days with more similar conditions than other riders. Looking at the EvtFactor column in the table shows that Christa rode in as variable a set of conditions as the other contenders. |
In addition to the usual variations in weather conditions, a fewer number of riders this year on a myriad of different courses of varying lengths made it more difficult to decide who were the most improved participants this year. Via comparison of cube speed ratios to previous 2007 WTT best average speeds, with and without EventFactor corrections, for those who had ridden 5 or more 2007 WTT events, Lisa Hébert came out first. In particular:
For second place, we chose Jane Hammingh, for scoring highest in both of these regards, of the participants who had done at least ten WTT events in 2007. Even more noteworthy than improvements within the current season, however, were Jane's improvements since she began time trialling 2 years ago. Jane did her seven fastest solo time trials this year, with a marked upwards trend in her average speeds since 2005. |
Celia participated in all 16 of the pre-Invitational 2007 WTT events which were not cancelled.
Kathy missed only one WTT event in August. Both Celia and Kathy showed up to race on the cold and rainy 2007-Jun-05 and were relieved that the volunteers were as keen to cancel as they were! |
Jim helped at fourteen of the WTT events this year! Thank you very much, Jim, for sharing your time, knowledge and camaderie with us. |
Thanks to all who helped to make this such an enjoyable activity, whether was through doing the underlying technical operations, bringing along adorable children/puppies, encouraging us, competing, or amusing us with pie-contests having rather malleable rules. Happy riding until next May!
